Thrice-crowned Most Valuable Player Jokic sustains a 'gut-wrenching' knee injury.
Thrice-crowned NBA MVP Jokic endured a "devastating" knee injury as the Nuggets lost by a score of 147-123 to the Miami Heat.
The star player sustained the injury late in the first half in an inadvertent contact with teammate Spencer Jones.
Jones stepped on the footwear of Jokic, and he immediately fell to the floor holding his leg.
The veteran player, who tops the league this season in boards and assists, posted a score of 21 points and eight assists in the game before sustaining the setback.
Jokic is scheduled for an scan on Tuesday to evaluate the severity of the injury.
"Instantly, he realized there was a problem," said Denver head coach David Adelman.
"This happens in professional sports. Any player who suffers an injury, that's gut-wrenching, most notably somebody as talented as him. We will know more on Tuesday."
"We will continue together. Clearly, currently, I am more concerned primarily about him as a person and the frustration of going through an event like that."
