The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.
It might not have been at the identical stature as sparing holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a prosperous future without fear.”
This ceremony, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, donated by a first responder, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “6-7” – originating from a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently named “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the holiday season,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and based in heritage that bring people together. Every time, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
