Man Formally Accused with Trying to Kill in Gunfire Attack of National Football League Player Kris Boyd
A suspect has been charged with trying to kill someone in connection with the attack that wounded New York Jets football athlete Kris Boyd.
Suspect Identified and Taken Into Custody
The accused is Frederick Green, age 20. Law enforcement took him into custody on Monday, charged with multiple serious charges.
Details of the Mid-November Incident
The serious event occurred in the middle of the night of 16 November, outside a popular New York City restaurant. Authorities described the event as a confrontation with a unknown individuals.
Boyd, age 29, was with teammates and a friend in Midtown Manhattan when the taunting started.
It resulted in a physical confrontation, during which it is alleged Green shot the athlete twice in the abdomen.
Severe Wounds and Hospitalization
The gunshot hit Boyd's lung and lodged in his major blood vessel near the heart. He was transported to the hospital in grave condition but was later discharged.
Reports indicate he has since visited his fellow players at a team training location.
Investigation and Apprehension in Buffalo
Security footage from the area allegedly captured Green fleeing and getting into a vehicle operated by another person.
Law enforcement apprehended Green on 8 December in Buffalo, where he was found at his girlfriend's apartment.
A law enforcement statement stated that "an individual" had been taken into custody.
When law enforcement converged on the apartment complex, the individual was seen "peeking out the window looking for an escape avenue but went back in after seeing the authorities," the announcement added.
The stand-off concluded shortly thereafter, when the suspect exited the residence with his hands up.
The suspect had "altered his appearance presumably to avoid detection," law enforcement commented.
Boyd's Career Background
Before signing with the Jets earlier this year, Boyd played the Houston Texans over multiple years in the NFL.
The cornerback had been on the team's injury list for the Jets after suffering a shoulder injury during team practice in August.
