Information Available Concerning the Those Lost of the Bondi Beach Terrorist Incident

At least 16 individuals were killed and over 40 were hurt when gunmen fired on a Hanukah event at Bondi Beach, a tragedy local police have labeled a act of terrorism.

As of the newest reports, authorities have stated the death toll stands at 16, which includes one of the alleged gunmen. Additionally, 42 injured people were transported to medical facilities.

The victims are still awaiting formally identified, but police believe their ages are from 10 and 87 years old.

Listed are the individuals who have been named so far.

Eli Schlanger

London-born clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was initially identified.

Known as a father-of-five, he was the assistant rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Family members and friends spoke of him as “lively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very kind and sociable person who loved to help people”.

“How is it possible that a happy rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, lose his life in this way?” a relative said.

Schlanger and his wife celebrated the arrival of their newest son in October.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman was also among those killed, as stated by his wife.

She recounted the events leading up to the shooting, stating they had been standing together when the gunfire erupted. “He shielded me because he wished to be near me,” she stated.

The pair were both Holocaust survivors, having faced unspeakable terror in their childhood. They had later moved to Australia from Eastern Europe.

Dan Elkayam

French authorities have confirmed that French man Dan Elkayam is a casualty.

Officially, the Foreign Minister declared that France shared the grief of his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This despicable act is a new, tragic manifestation of a revolting outpouring of antisemitic hatred that we must put a stop to,” the message continued.

One Child

A child who was rushed to the a children's hospital succumbed to her injuries, police have confirmed.

One Israeli Citizen

A national of Israel was among those killed during the attack, according to multiple sources referencing the Israeli government.

Those Injured

From the 42 people transported to hospitals, a significant number are still receiving treatment, with a number in critical condition. Those hurt comprise two police officers who attended the scene.

One of the injured is a bystander who attempted to intervene to confront one of the gunmen. Called a local hero, he sustained bullet wounds but is in stable condition in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a human rights lawyer. It has been reported he was injured and is receiving treatment in hospital.

He wrote, he described the scene as an “absolute bloodbath,” but also praised the response of those who came to assist. He stated he felt it was a “miracle” he was alive.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was also injured in the attack. He described he listened to “a large number” of shots.

“I thought it was something less lethal, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he said. “I’ve been shot myself. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.”
