Grief as Popular South African DJ Shot Dead in the City of Johannesburg.
A prominent South African radio and club DJ has been shot dead in the country's largest city Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a nation grappling with persistent crime.
Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was gunned down in the city centre on Tuesday afternoon.
Police said the 40-year-old entertainer was approached by three individuals, with one began shooting at him before escaping on foot.
The purpose of the attack has not been established and no arrests have been made, police said.
The Fatal Incident
Police indicated that Stock was ambushed as he was leaving a location close to the city center landmark.
He had devoted time at the property overseeing the setup of safety equipment, which had been controversially occupied by squatters, as per local media.
"It is alleged the deceased was approached by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they began shooting at him before running from the location on foot," an official report confirmed.
Surveillance tape showed a man with dreadlocked hair and wearing what looked like a security uniform shooting on Stock before running away.
The DJ sought to escape after he was shot but collapsed across the street.
Officials noted that Stock had an gun that was not fired and no items were stolen during the assault.
Crucial forensic evidence, like cartridges, were recovered from the location.

Officials are asking members of the public who may have witnessed the attack to assist with the investigation.
"Evidence suggests they covered significant ground after the attack, and police have been attempting to locate them to find their location," stated a police chief.

His family member, a close relative, expressed the relatives are devastated to understand the tragedy.
"I am in shock. I don't have words," were her words.
"Everyone understood he was a champion for numerous individuals. He was a fearless commentator about subjects not many people were prepared to speak about. This is a devastating blow."
She requested the citizens to refrain from sharing graphic images from the scene, noting this was an deeply traumatic time, above all for Stock's children.
