Arne Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was natural for doubts to be raised about his position following another convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in twelve matches, marking the team's worst run since being demoted in 1953-54.

They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.

“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received a lot of support from above,” the coach stated.

“It would be great to change things and get a victory naturally but when you're coaching a team and not doing well then it's typical that questions are asked.”

He noted, “I accept my situation. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”

Discussions with Club Management

When asked to expand on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:

“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”

He further stated, “Through standard conversations we have I feel the trust. However I've not talked to them after this game yet so let’s see.”

Recurring Problems and Squad Reaction

Slot highlighted familiar failings from his team in their Champions League loss, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the team's situation.

“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder remarked.

“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the phrases.”

He went on, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen this club for years.”

“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a period of this nature with outcomes like these.”

Jones stated, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And as long as it is taken away, we will always battle.”

“We will attempt to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all again what this club is about and why it's known as the best team in the world.”

“But right now, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
